It’s a question that, perhaps, more of us should ask ourselves. After all, not every trend is for every body. And it’s not just about choosing looks that are appropriate for your figure. You might have a slammin’ midsection but if you’re a soccer mom who volunteers for a church retreat full of teenage boys… maybe stay away from the crop-top trend.
There are three keys things to consider when deciding to Trend or Not: cost, quality, cuteness. Let’s use the leopard print trend to examine these key points. [click to continue…]

Move over Wayfarer, there’s a new shape in town! For quite a while now the default celebrity sunglasses were those boxy little 80s-reminicient Ray-Bans. And while they were cute on some, the complete saturation of the style made it a little bit predictable (i.e. boring).

Thankfully, the tide is turning and and celebs are opting for [click to continue…]

As we get into the swing of the Spring 2010 season, there are few key trends that should appear on every fashion lover’s shopping list. One of them is military style. While spring is traditionally chock full of bright colors and floral patterns, the military trend challenges the true stylista to utilize an uber neutral palette and stark tailoring while remain light and airy enough for the heat.
While the military trend has been brewing for a few seasons, but until now we’ve seen it appear mostly for fall. But caution fashionphile! When trying out the style for warmer weather don’t confuse the heavy jackets like the very popular Balmain blazer seen in the Jak & Jil street style photo below on the left. A similarly heavy jacket is made somewhat lighter in the Denimology look on the right by pairing the uniform jacket with a white blouse and cut off shorts. Still, the tights and the heaviness of the jacket just don’t say SPRING.

For Spring 2010 military style is a more subdued, understated version of the trend. Instead of mimicking officers with elaborate golden embroidery, designer fashion labels seemed to draw from the simple attributes of a soldier’s uniform.
Chloe showed an austere military look with plain lines free from embellishments.

It’s spring!!! Yes, it’s started officially a couple weeks ago, but with the start of April the new season is in full effect. One of the most invigorating things about changing your wardrobe over is letting your feet get some air after months of being cloistered in boots and thick socks. But your feet might be in need of pedi or two before you let them hang all the way out. Peep-toes shoes are the perfect transitional style for this time of year and this season they are paired with bows in all varieties.

Who did you think was the best dressed? Worst?

Heels only seem to be getting taller and along with them so have the limits on boots for winter. Last season they hit mid calf, come Fall they rose to above the knee and as the snowy season quickly approaches they dare to rise thigh high. This is not the first time we have seen these high-rise boots though. In the days of “Pretty Woman” Julia Roberts expertly sported pair after pair, whether black patent leather or detailed with lace-ups all the way from the ankle, but we must not forget, she played a low class hooker. It seems now these boots have taken a 180, viewed with connects to class, style and elegance, maybe due to the patent leather being replaced with much richer detailing. They allow a way to sport minis and short shorts as the temperature drops without baring too much skin.
First introduced to the fashion scene in plain black suede with a simple heel by Christian Louboutin, others designers are now experimenting with numerous cuts, materials and colors. Jeffery Campbell has added his signature rugged look to this upcoming trend, elongating worn brown leather boots adorned with buckets and a stacked heel. Designers like Ash, Juicy Couture and Camilla Skovgaard have turned away from the notorious stiletto and replaced it with a wedge or platform heel in order to make them more wearable for both night and day.
So if you wish to strut your thigh highs with zippers, studs, tassels, or even in multi-color be sure to follow a few basic tips. Let them show! Thigh high boots aren’t meant to be covered and trying to pull pants down over them minimizes comfort and likewise, don’t try to tuck jeans into them. Plan on showing a little upper leg with a short dress or pair of high waist shorts, and if you are initially timid about such short hem lines pair with tights for a look with a little more coverage.
